Course Expectations

1. BINDER ORGANIZATION
I ask that all students have a designated Science Section in their binder. 

2. SCIENCE JOURNAL
All students MUST have a science journal. Your school supply list included a composition notebook for this purpose. 

3. GRADING
Daily Work = 25%
Labs/Quizzes = 30%
Tests/Projects = 45%

4. ASSIGNMENTS
  • Homework assignments are due at the beginning of class. (Class begins when you walk into the room.)
  • If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain the work that you missed.
  • Warm-ups are to be completed in the first five minutes of the class period. You may use your books, notes or other materials to complete the warm-up.(Your classmates are not reference materials.)
5. PAPER HEADING
The following heading should be on top of all papers.

6. LABS
    • For the safety of yourself and others, it is important that you follow all lab safety rules and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner. If you cannot comply with labs rules then you will be immediately removed from the lab, receive a “0” on the lab and receive a detention/referral.
    • It is important to note that all members of a lab group are responsible for answers submitted for the lab. Therefore, you are responsible for your grade. Do not fault your lab partner(s) for a low grade.
    • I will usually assign lab groups. Please respect your classmates and work as a team. If a member is not participating, please bring it to my attention.
7. MAKE-UP WORK
It is your responsibility to find out what you missed. Here are some helpful tips if you are absent:
  • Check online for the agenda and handouts.
  • Check the assignment calendar when you get to class.
  • Pick up what you need from the hanging “Make-Up” folders before class begins.
  • Don’t forget to write “Absent” on any make-up work before you turn it in.
  • You will be given one day to make up work for each day you were absent, with a minimum of 2 days. After your allotted time, all work will be considered late.
  • Make-up Tests and Quizzes will have to be scheduled. It is your responsibility to do so.
  • Please do not walk up to me while I am teaching the class. Use advisory, tutoring and study days to check with me about details for certain assignments.
8. LATE WORK
Mandatory tutorials will be assigned for late work. All late work will be penalized according to the school’s late work policy.
  • 1 day late = 20 points off
  • Each day an additional 5 pts will be deducted

9. MATERIALS


All students are expected to come to class prepared. Please bring a pen, pencil, eraser, red pen, paper, highlighter and all science materials (books, handouts, etc.) to class each day. You should also bring glue, scissors, colored pencils, calculators, and etc. on specified days.


10. HALL PASSES

You should take care of all personal business during passing periods. I expect you to be prompt and ready to work when you arrive in class. If you have an emergency, you may use one of your 3 “Science” passes located on your pass sheet. You will receive new passes every 6 weeks. Please try not to interrupt when leaving or returning. Only one student is allowed out of the classroom at a time. If the hall pass is gone, you must wait until it is returned before you leave. There will be no passes given the first or last 10 minutes of class.

11. TUTORING

Please come to me if you would like any additional help with any of the material we are studying. I will have posted tutoring times or you may set up a time to meet with me.

If you do not understand a homework assignment, it is your responsibility to come in before class to get assistance. Have your parents write you a note to get into the building before school. You may also drop by during advisory. Please do not come to me at the beginning of class and expect to get full credit.


12. WEBSITE
My web page has the class agenda/homework assignments, announcements, links, pictures, important information and some of the class handouts. This is a great resource for checking missed or lost assignments.

13. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
  • Follow all classroom and school rules. (See your student handbook.)
  • Respect yourself and others.
  • Be prepared for class.
  • Actively listen to the teacher.
  • Read and follow instructions.
  • Use time efficiently.
  • Request teacher assistance as needed.
  • Do your personal best.

14. CONSEQUENCES

  • Verbal Warning
  • Detention and/or phone call to parent
  • Referral to Office

15. CHEATING


Cheating will not be tolerated! Anyone caught cheating will be given a “0” and a referral.



16. TARDY POLICY

If you are late to class, please come in quietly. If you have a pass, please hand it to me. School tardy policy will be followed for consequences.
